Your lymphatic system is the central component of your immune system. It protects the body by transporting the lymph fluid that contains infection-fighting white blood cells throughout the body while draining and filtering out waste.
When the flow is interrupted, congestion occurs, resulting in swelling or edema in the tissues. As a result, toxic waste matter cannot effectively be released from the body, nor can the immune system function at optimum performance. The result is a wide range of dysfunction and disease.
The causes of lymphatic congestion range from injuries and surgery, inactivity and poor diet, to emotional stress, environmental toxins, hormone imbalance, and normal aging.
