Oncology massage is designed to meet the unique needs of someone in treatment for cancer or with a history of cancer treatment. An individually tailored session with an oncology-trained massage therapist can yield benefits for nearly all persons affected by cancer. A gentle massage for those receiving treatment for cancer, or who have survived cancer to thrive, to relieve pain, lessen the side effects from chemotherapy treatments and boost and revitalize the immune system.
For those who have had cancer surgery, this massage supports rehabilitation and healthy healing after a lumpectomy or mastectomy, with the first session being conducted three weeks post-surgery for releasing scar tissue and balancing the lymphatic system.
For those receiving radiation, sessions prior to and following treatment are recommended. Massage is safe during chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and can be beneficial to reduce adverse reactions of these medical treatments. Massage is effective during the reconstruction process, making expander fills more manageable, addressing any tightness that may occur.
